to do list | getting ready for spain

Today I am sharing with you all my to-do list for the day. I am really not an organised person, possibly the least organised person you will ever meet, so I still have plenty of things left to do before I fly to Spain tomorrow. I've made a list to make sure that I get everything that needs to be done completed. Hopefully this method will work! Quite often when I make a list of things to do, I never finish them (I am the world champion at procrastinating) but I absolutely have to finish them today.

1. Pack
Still haven't packed anything yet and I leave my house tomorrow at lunchtime. Oops.
2. Buy kindle books
Something I have been meaning to do for absolutely ages. I have a huge list of ones that I want to buy. I'll probably do this tonight once I have come home from work.
3. Charge batteries
Need to charge up the batteries for my camera or this holiday will be photo-less.
4. Charge ipod
It's almost totally out of charge and I like to listen to music on the plane so this is a must.
5. Charge kindle
Pretty self explanatory.
6. Charge laptop
Our villa is going to have wifi so I am bringing my laptop so all you lovely people can see my outfits whilst in spain.
7. Get nails done
I am going to get that gel nail polish stuff on my nails, Shellac it is sometimes called? Don't know what colour yet, but it's meant to last about 2-3 weeks so I thought it would be perfect and save me from having to do my nails when I am there. Tomorrow morning I am also getting Minx done on my toenails (nail wraps). I'll do Nailed posts on them.
8. Tidy room
It is a complete pig sty.
9. Buy magazines
I might do this at the airport. I love to read when I am on holiday so these would be a nice change from reading my kindle books.
10. Clean ice cream off my plimsolls.
Don't even know how the chocolate ice cream got there, but I don't think it is for budging.
11. Decide what I am wearing to travel
Again, self explanatory.

Hope this wasn't too boring for you. I promise to do a couple of posts whilst I am away but there may be less than normal. I am sure you understand! That's if the wifi even works, I might not get any up at all...

a HAUL of bits and bobs for my holiday!

I'M GOING TO SPAIN IN 3 DAYS! This time on Friday I will be on the plane on my way to Murcia in Spain, then I'll be getting a taxi to Alcazaras/Costa Calida (either Costa Calida is in Alcazares or vice versa). I am soooooo excited you wouldn't believe it. Our villa/appartment thing has wifi so I will hopefully be posting some OOTDs and holiday snaps for you to enjoy so keep a lookout for those next week and the week after! I have some cracking outfits planned, so you will hopefull be seeing them. I'm going for a fortnight, so I am going to get a mega tan! Woohoooo!

In the meantime, I am going to show you some of the stuff that I have been buying in preparation for my holidays. Some of the stuff I got a good little while ago so I can't remember the prices but I have done my best to find the majority of them on the internet.

Also, I usually edit all my photos to make them brighter but I can't be bothered tonight (ther's way too many - it would take ages!) so you will have to suffer my poo pictures. Hope they aren't too bad!

I have been wanting to buy this powder for aaaaaaaages (you may have seen it in an previous wishlist post) but I finally got round to doing it after my 17 one smashed. It's really good actually, it keeps my t-zone shine free for a good while. Review soon maybe?

Got this earlier today in Semi Chem on my walk home from the optician's (couldn't resist going in when I walked past...) and I really quite like it. It's a really pretty cherry colour and I love how glossy but not sticky it is.

I ran out of the Batiste Blush dry shampoo so I decided to try this one out. I prefer the smell of this one actually but it does the same job.

This has an SPF of 30 so it will be a good thing to have with me on my holiday. I don't really burn so this should be okay. Haven't tried it out yet but I'll do a review when I have.

Finally got round to buying the Mac 217 dupe, but only because I had one of those £5 no7 vouchers in Boots. So far so good, my favourite way to use it is to blend in Benefit Erase Paste under my eyes.

Love love love this colour! It's the one that I have on my nails just now and it's so pretty. Perfect for summer.

Roughly my 6th re-purchase of this concealer, I love it so darn much.

I bought this when it was £4.99 in New Look last week but now it's half price so if you like it, get it quickly! It's really really pretty and summery and I love it.

Tribal print??? vest top
Not quite sure if this counts as tribal but I'll just go with that. I bought it in TK Maxx for £9.99 I think (not on the internet). It's a lovely blouse/sheer material and looks great with cropped white trousers or denim shorts.

Flower tie front blouse
No idea whatsoever of the price but its from Debenhams. Again, looks nice with white cropped trousers and shorts.

Stripey zip front dress
Again, don't know the price and from Debenhams. I LOVE THIS DRESS. It's so cool.

I really like the whole bra top trend so I was confident one night and ordered two. So I'll have my belly out on holiday since this comes above my belly button so I'll try not to eat to much in the next few days...

I'm absolutely RAGING that this is reduced to £2.40 now after buying it last week. TWO POUNDS FORTY PENCE! Not that I paid much for it (£7.99) but still! £2.40 is absolutely NOTHING. They might as well give you it for free.

Really like the bralets with these jeans and the blouses I showed earlier. I might even wear these to travel on Friday. I got them in the teens section in New Look because they were reduced and the womens bit didn't have anything like them and I really wanted something like this.

So as it turns out, the majority of the photos weren't too bad but omg, this was the longest post in beauty blogging history. Sorry! That's if anyone even made it this far. Leave a comment if you got to the end!

My top 10 summer beauty essentials

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. This is starting to be a habit, me apologising for being such a rubbish blogger. Woopsies! I have had mild writer's block (that sounds like some sort of disease. Where's the medication for it? Hahahaha, I make myself laugh.) It's been over a week since my last post, I know that for sure. I think it is 9 days? Something like that. But it's all good, no need to panic, I have a haul post planned for this week. I am just waiting on my New Look order to arrive. I ordered about 5 different bralets - you know they little crop top thingummies? I ordered tons to choose from just because I wanted it to be over £45 to get free delivery then I'll take the ones I don't want back to the shop. I'm a money-saving genius. It seems I have rambled here a bit, so without further ado...

In no particular order (remind you of The X Factor?!)...

     1. Sun cream
Of course, you need a good sun cream in the summer unless you want to burn to a crisp and get skin cancer. Cheery thought for you there! Don't forget to put some of your face too, because the skin on your face is really sensitive to sun and burns easily. There is not much worse than a bright red sunburnt face!
Top tip: Put sun cream on before you get dressed and then you can make sure you have covered every single nook and cranny.

Up until this year, I haven't been a fan of sunglasses which is reeeeally bad of me. I can never seem to find ones that suit me and my small face/head. But this year I got quite nice ones that don't seem to look too bad, but then I could be wrong.

     3. BB Cream/tinted moisturiser
I find foundation can sometimes be a bit too heavy in the summer so tend to opt for lighter coverage with a bb cream or a tinted moisturiser (if I wear any make-up that is). I recommend the Garnier BB Cream and the Maybelline Dream Fresh bb cream (the garnier one has a little bit more coverage but it's shinier on my face). The garnier one has SPF 15 whilst the Maybelline one has SPF 30.

     4. moisturising lip balm
My lips can sometimes get really dry in the summer. Not really sure why, maybe it is just all the heat and the sun. I actually think your lips can get sunburnt - ouch, I can imagine the pain of that! - so it is best to go for a lip balm with an SPF in it. I think some of the little vaseline tins have SPF, and they are really moisturising too.

     5. body lotion
Like my lips, my body gets really dry when I am on holiday from all the sunbathing so I always use a good moisturising body lotion when I come out of the shower. I like something that sinks into my skin quickly and doesn't feel greasy, like Sweet Craving Warm Vanilla and Tempting Praline from Victoria's Secret.

     6. Body spray/flowery perfume
For the summer months, you can't beat a nice floral perfume or light body spray. You don't want anything too heavy because they can smell a bit wintery or autumny (are they real words?). My favourite perfume for spring and summer is Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh. A good body spray is Soap & Glory Mist You Madly.

     7. loose translucent powder
I have really oily skin so I always need a powder. In the summer when I am on holiday, I don't want anything during the day that looks too much like makeup, so I use the Collection 2000 Loose Sheer Powder in Translucent, because it isn't visible on the skin but still keeps the oil at bay.

     8. hair serum
The sun and the heat ALWAYS turns my hair into a giant fuzzball so I need a serum to tame it to something more kind to the eyes. Vo5 Miracle Concentrate works like a dream for this.

     9. coral blush
There is nothing more uplifting and summery for your face than a pretty coral blush. I like Collection 2000 blush in Bashful.

     10. bronzer
My face is always last to tan (my body tans within 5 minutes of sitting in the sun) so I use a bronzer to match the colour up to the rest of my body. That means that I can use a high SPF on my face to protect it and then fake the colour safely! I have no idea what brand this bronzer is, it doesn't say a brand name or shade name but I think I got it in Boots years ago and it is still going strong. It doesn't even seem to be anywhere near hitting pan!

What are your summer necessities?

Nailed: French Manicure

I've always found french manicures really difficult to do on myself, so I am not sure what came across me yesterday when I was deciding how to paint my nails! I am not overly skilled at doing patterns or any little intricate detail on my nails, so not being able to paint a decent white tip has never come as a surprise to me. However yesterday I was feeling brave and decided to just go for it, expecting horrendous results. But if I do say so myself, they turned out pretty good!

French manicures are a really classic way to paint your nails. They look clean and polished which makes them perfect for wearing to work. They are not too in your face which is brilliant for wearing to work or an interview.

the nail polish remover bottle is empty now, but originally it was filled with a purple liquid
Left to right:

To achieve this look, I painted my nails with one coat of the pale pink. Applying only one coat ensured that I could still see my natural tips. I like to do this so the white has something to stick to. Then I done the white tips freehand. You must now leave the white tips to dry COMPLETELY. If they are not totally dry, the next coat will smudge them everywhere and you'll have to start again. Then I did another coat of the pink so that the tips aren't too white and look more natural. Having only one coat over the white rather than too keeps them from looking too pink as well. I finished off with a clear varnish.

I always end up with white nail polish all over the tops of my fingers so I used an old lip brush (obviously not one I use on my lips) dipped in nail polish remover to clean them. This made it look sooooo much neater and I couldn't have left the house without doing this. I've tried the sticker guide things before but didn't get on well with them.

I wonder why they are called 'french' manicures. Did they originate in France or something? If anyone knows, feel free to let me know. I'm curious!

If you find it difficult to do these on yourself, you can always go and get them professionally done. Watch will the person does it, and maybe you will pick up a few tips from them!

Do you have any tips I could use for the next time I try this out?

Well hello June -- My May Favourites

Well I don't know about you, but the month of May literally flew in for me. Now it's only 3 weeks and 5 days till I go to Spain (yes, I am counting down the days). I am so excited for Spain - excited for the tan I am going to get anyway! I love it because I tan so easily. I am really quite fair in the winter but as soon as the sun comes out - BAM! My inner tanned goddess comes out! Eeeeeeeek, I can't wait!

Because I have been saving up for my holidays, I have been on a spending ban for most of this month meaning none of my favourites are newbies to my collection. There are a few make-up bits and pieces that I need to pick up before I go though, but for the most part, I have done pretty well with saving!

Left to right - St Ives apricot scrub, Natural Collection lipstick 'Rose Bud', green Bare Minerals eyeliner

the scrub blended out
Garnier BB Cream : I have gotten back in to using this lately as I think it is a really good alternative to foundation for the warmer months. It feels much lighter on my skin than a foundation does and I really love the glowy look it gives me. It is a little bit too dewy for my oily skin so it does need powdered regularly but I can put up with that because I love it. £9.99 from Boots.

Natural Collection Moisture Shine lipstick in 'Rose Bud' : I really love this colour for my lips because it has a gorgeous shine to it and the colour is lovely. The colour suits my fair-medium skin tone really quite well and I love how it isn't matte. It has a very natural shimmer to it and the best part is it was about £1.99 from Boots. (doesn't seem to be on the website)

St Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub : This is just the travel size that I have but I am definitely going to pick up the full size next time I am in Boots. I got this one in Asda for about £1.2o and I think the full size is £3.99. It leaves my skin looking so radiant and healthy. I am not going to go in to too much detail here as I am planning on doing a review on it soon. And apparently it is the UK's No1 face scrub!

H&M Vanilla Bean lip balm : This smells good enough to eat! It is really moisturising on the lips and was a measly £1.5o. Bargain of the century! (not on the website)

Arrow Head Necklace : I got this after I saw it on ages ago. I love it, and it goes with basically everything. It is really long and I think it really finishes off an outfit nicely. £5 from Matalan. (not online)

Maybelline Dream Lumitouch highlighting concealer : This does a fabby job at concealing and highlighting my undereye cirlces. It is basically a cheap dupe for the YSL Touche Eclat, but it conceals too (the YSL one is just a highlighting pen). £6.99 from Boots.

Bare Minerals Big & Bright green eyeliner : Annoyingly, this doesn't seem to have a shade name anywhere on it but it is a really nice eyeliner! It glides on soooooo easily, is a beautiful colour and the little sponge smudger thing under the cap at the bottom is very nifty and useful. I think it really suits brown and hazel eye colours (oh yeah, i'm hazel-eyed). Online, the green colour isn't there but there are 5 colours to choose from if you are interested. £13.

A couple of human favourites for this month are...
Taylor Swift : I have been really loving her music this month and listening to it non-stop on my ipod. I am a huuuuge Taylor Swift fan, and this month was no exception. I think she is simply stunning (I have a bit of a girl crush for her...)
missglamorazzi (on youtube) : She was doing this thing on her youtube channel where she uploaded a video every second day in May and they were all great! She is gorgeous, and her beauty videos are fab. I couldn't get enough of her this month!

Nailed: Graduating Glitter [on pale pink]

This is the first time I have ever tried out this look, but I must say I am quite impressed! It turned out a lot better than I expected it to. I wasn't even planning on doing this, it just sort of happened. My original idea was to do gradient nails with a make-up sponge, but after trying it on one nail, it was a small disaster. One day I will try it again, but for now this is what I will be doing.

All I did was paint my nails one solid colour (in this case, Nails Inc 'South Molton Street'). This look could be achieved with any colour underneath. I think it would look nice with a teal colour so I will be trying that next! Then I got my glitter nail polish ( Rimmel London 'Disco Ball') and started painting 3/4 of the way down my nail up to the tip. Then once that has dried, 1/2 way down my nail, then 1/4 and then a toty bit at the tip. I think this would work best with a glitter polish that is not solid glitter, just a few bits in it if you get what I mean. If it had to much glitter in it, it would be too difficult to gradually build up the glitter. I'll show you in a picture below because I don't think that explanation makes much sense.

The one I used for this look is the one on the left. On the right is Orly 'Tiara'.

Be careful when you are doing this though because the ends of your nails are really thick with polish so they take ages to dry. This look will also probably chip or peel easily because there is so much polish at the ends but I personally don't care because I lurvs it!

What do you think? Will you be trying this out?
